Listening Two or More Times to Improve Fluency
You should listen to a chapter at least twice before you move on to the next one.
Before the final listen you need one or more listens to get familiar with the speakers' accents, and any unfamiliar vocabulary and usage. Take advantage of the Assist Mode (the lightbulb icon) and its settings to slow down the audio and choose the level of redaction during playback.
The final listen should be without assistance, i.e. at a natural speed, without visual hints, so that you experience the language as a continuous, fluid narrative. This is what we call "listening like a native."
We track the first two listens for you at the top of each chapter card, but many learners find they need three, four, or more iterations — it will vary from chapter to chapter — to feel ready for the final listen. You can always tap “Listen again” before moving on to the next chapter.
